News Story on Proposed Change to Law Causes Confusion

A news story about a proposed change to the state Tax Law is causing confusion about the legal age of alcohol servers. A provision in a bill to make samples of alcohol provided at wineries, breweries, cideries and distilleries exempt from sales tax was intended to require servers of such samples to be at least 21 years of age, However, it was drafted in a way that some interpret it as requiring all servers to be at least 21. We understand that discussions are underway to amend the bill to clarify the intent, but regardless of the amendment this change to the Tax Law cannot supersede the ABC Law. We’ll stay on top of this and make sure to keep you informed.
