Minimum Wage Update

Earlier this month we reminded you that the first of several annual increases in the minimum wage will take effect at the end of this month. We also advised you that the allowances, credits and minimum weekly salary for employees to be exempt from the state overtime rule will also increase by the same percentage as the minimum wage. And we explained that this hike in the minimum wage begins the start of different minimum wages in different parts of the state and, in New York City, a different wage scale for small and large employers adding to the confusion and burden on business owners.

The New York State Department of Labor has now updated its website to reflect these increases. General information and answers to frequently asked questions can be found online at this link: https://labor.ny.gov/workerprotection/laborstandards/workprot/minwage.shtm. They’ve also made available a new Minimum Wage Poster which you must display in your business by December 31st. You can download it from https://www.labor.ny.gov/formsdocs/wp/LS207.3.pdf.
