This is a fast-moving crisis and there have been a lot of developments in just the past few days. Anecdotal reports over the weekend show that the social distancing guidelines that were issued by Governor Cuomo last week were broadly ignored. Many public officials have been calling for closing bars and restaurants in New York State as has been done in several other states and cities. Late last night Mayor DeBlasio announced he would be signing an Executive Order closing all bar and restaurants starting Tuesday morning at 9:00 am. This could certainly spread. In another development the federal Center for Disease Control (CDC) issued guidance yesterday calling for no more than 50 people to be in a gathering. The CDC said this guidance is in place for the next eight weeks. Watch this space for further updates.
