New Rules from the Workers' Compensation Board
You need to be aware of recent Workers’ Compensation Board changes to claim forms and processes that affect every business owner (not only those in our Safety Group). Now more than ever, it is essential that employees report all injuries immediately. The law requires that employers keep a record of all injuries sustained by their employees and it is recommended that form C-2 be utilized for that purpose.
Employers must file a completed C-2 form when a work-related injury or illness results in personal injury that either causes a loss of time from regular duties of one day beyond the working day or shift on which the accident occurred; or will require medical treatment beyond ordinary first aid; or results in more than two treatments by a person rendering first aid. Form C-2 must be filed within 10 days after the accident.
On and after April 1, 2009, when you file Form C-2 you must be certain to use the new version of the C-2 form and provide your injured employee with a “Claimant Information Packet” (the new C-2 and the Claimant Information Packet can be found on the NYSIF’s website www.nysif.com). Members of our Safety Group should fully complete the C-2 form to the best of your ability and fax the completed C-2 form to RMPG’s First Notice Unit at (516) 535-4798, Attention: Millie Torro. In an effort to avoid penalties from the Workers’ Compensation Board we must stress that you strictly adhere to the above.
To summarize the above, please note the following:
- Utilize the new C-2 form to file any claims that meet the criteria.
- Fully complete the C-2 and make sure to file it timely!
- Remember to give the injured employee a “Claimant Information Packet”.
As always, the RMPG staff is available for any questions or concerns you may have regarding the Workers’ Compensation claim process. Please do not hesitate to contact Peter Stone at (516) 535-4973 for any assistance you may require. |
