Association Succeeds in Passage of Priority Legislation
The State Assembly and Senate both passed legislation this month that, once signed by Governor Spitzer, will put the wheels in motion for a thorough review of the state’s Alcoholic Beverage Control law. Most of the laws that dictate how you run your business were written in the days following the repeal of prohibition. The association has sought legislation to review and recommend updates to the antiquated laws that govern the beverage alcohol industry in order to bring the regulation of your business into the modern era.
This bill, sponsored by Assemblyman Robin Schimminger and State Senator James Alesi, directs the state’s Law Revision Commission to undertake a review of the law. The Commission is required to submit a preliminary report to the Governor and the legislature by March 1, 2008 with a final report due by September 1, 2008. Any changes recommended by the Commission would require approval by the legislature and the Governor and could be modified as part of the process. We are hopeful this process will provide an opportunity to revise or eliminate laws whose purpose is no longer necessary or are out of touch with the modern world and will lead to a more profitable environment in which you do business. |
